After 44 days in office, Liz Truss resigns as UK Prime Minister

…Anger over purported plan by Boris Johnson to return as PM

UK Prime Minister, Liz Truss yesterday resigned 44 days after her assumption of office on Tuesday, September 6, 2022.

It was gathered that Truss made the announcement after a rising chorus of members of her own Conservative Party called for her resignation hours after saying she was a fighter and not a quitter, and so would continue in office.

Liz Truss succeeded Boris Johnson who resigned from his appointment as Prime Minister in July over a series of scandals. Truss became UK PM after defeating Rishi Sunak by 81,326 votes to 60,399 in the Conservative Party leadership contest.

Immediately she resigned, the name of Johnsons return was being reported by some newspapers. His allies are said to be pushing for his comeback to 10 Downing Street, as he is still eligible as a Conservative party man.

Reports surfaced in The Times and Daily Telegraph that her predecessor was thinking of making a comeback.

This morning former Culture Secretary, Nadine Dorries, said there was only one person who had been elected by the British public with a manifesto and a mandate until January 25.

The well-known Johnson loyalist also tweeted to say MPs must demand (the) return of Boris Johnson if not it has to be leadership election or a general election.

But the Liberal Democrats are calling for Johnson to be barred from standing in the Conservative Leadership election and returning to Number 10.
