Former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has emerged as the sole presidential aspirant of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 election, according to reports on Monday.

The development followed the closure of the party’s sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms on May 17, with Obi reportedly being the only aspirant to obtain the forms before the deadline.
His emergence comes amid ongoing political realignments within the opposition ahead of the 2027 presidential race. Reports also indicate that the NDC has zoned its presidential ticket to the South for one term before rotating it to the North in 2031.
Obi is now widely expected to emerge as the party’s consensus presidential candidate after the completion of the screening process.
