Power supply disrupted nationwide, as national grid collapses again

For the second time in four days – and this new year – the national power grid has crashed. The power generation dropped to just 39 megawatts (MW) at 11a.m. yesterday, down from 3,825 MW an hour earlier. Recall that last Friday, power generation fell to zero megawatts on the grid, according to the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), cutting-off supply to all 11 distribution companies (DisCos) by 1 p.m that day. There was apprehension yesterday, as President Bola Tinubu briefly stumbled during an official welcome ceremony in Ankara, Turkey. The incident happened as the Nigerian leader walked alongside Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, at the ceremony marking the start of Tinubu’s visit.  Witnesses said the President appeared to miss a step, causing him to lose his balance. Bandits who abducted 177 Christian worshippers in Kajuru local government area of Kaduna State have demanded a ransom of ₦250 million and 20 motorcycles to secure the release of the victims, local authorities have confirmed. Justice James Kolawole Omotosho  of the Abuja Federal high Court, has struck out an ex-parte Motion filed by leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, seeking his transfer from the Sokoto correctional facility.
