Zamfara: Police raid ex-Gov. Matawalles house, impound vehicles

Officers of the Nigerian Police yesterday raided the home of former Gov. of Zamfara state, Bello Matawalle in Maradun yesterday morning andseized someSports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), according to sources.

This happened after the new Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal accused Matawalle of stealing official vehicles from the Government House before handing over the States leadership to him.

Recall that Lawal, during a radio programme in the state capital, Gusau, on Wednesday, said his predecessor sold all the official vehicles, refrigerators, television sets and other items in the Government House. However, yesterday, policemen stormed Matawalles residence in search of the cars.

Reacting to the development, APC chieftain, Femi Fani-Kayode, who is a friend of Matawalle, described the raid as unacceptable, and called on the Inspector-General of Police to call his officers to order.

Matawalle was unable to respond or comment on the situation as of the time of filing this report.
