Zamfara: Buhari’s aide hints at  Governor Matawalle’s defection to APC

The Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, has suggested that there is a possibility for the defection of the Zamfara State governor, Bello Matawalle, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the All Progressives Congress, (APC).

This was made known by the presidential aide, Ahmad in a Facebook post yesterday, which stated: “So, Zamfara is back home! Welcome Matawalle”.

As at the time of this reportage, Matawalle has not confirmed his rumoured defection to APC, despite speculation of the defection from different quarters and the subsequent denial.

Recall that in April, some APC governors visited Matawalle in Zamfara to commiserate with him over the activities of bandits in the State.

The visit of the APC governors was followed by their PDP counterparts in a move to persuade Matawalle from not joining the APC.

Since November 2020, two governors – David Umahi, of Ebonyi State and Ben Ayade, of Rivers – elected under the platform of PDP have joined the APC.

Meanwhile, some APC chieftains have been boasting that more PDP governors will join them.
