A group of youths, under the aegis of the Coalition for Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday stormed the Abuja residence of former President Goodluck Jonathan, urging him to contest the 2027 presidential election.

The supporters gathered around Taraba Close in the Maitama area of Abuja, chanting solidarity songs and displaying placards calling on the former Nigerian leader to return to active politics. The rally reportedly caused heavy traffic within the upscale district as demonstrators danced and waved banners bearing inscriptions such as: ‘GEJ: Nigeria is dying, save it’, and: ‘GEJ, if you no run, we quench’.
The protesters described Jonathan as a unifying figure capable of addressing Nigeria’s political and economic challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing the supporters, Jonathan acknowledged the growing calls for his return to the political scene, saying he would consult widely before making any decision. “I’ve heard you loud and clear. I will consult widely before making any decision”, the former president told the crowd.
Jonathan also used the occasion to urge Nigerian youths to participate actively in the democratic process, stressing the need for peaceful, transparent and credible elections in the country.
The former Bayelsa State governor expressed concern over increasing voter apathy in Nigeria, describing it as a major threat to democracy. He further encouraged young Nigerians to move beyond criticism and become actively involved in civic and political engagements capable of shaping the nation’s future.
Yesterday’s rally is the latest in a series of calls by political groups and supporters urging Jonathan to return to partisan politics ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
