The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), has cautioned the Zamfara State governor, Bello Matawalle, members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, and those of the National Assembly from the State against defecting to the All Progressives Congress, (APC).

This is coming on the heels of reports that the governor is set to join the APC today.
According to his spokesperson, Yusuf Idris, the governor will join the ruling party with “the National and State Assembly members as well as the PDP executives from all levels of the State”.

The governor, who was elected on the platform of the PDP, had earlier dissolved the State’s Executive Council, in what appears as the plan for his defection.
However, in reaction, the PDP stated that Gov. Matawalle defecting to the APC amounts to a decision to vacate office.
This was disclosed in a statement titled: ‘Zamfara: PDP cautions Matawalle, NASS, SHoA members against defection,’ signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan.
According to the Party, “No law allows him to cross over to any other Party with the governorship mandate statutorily given to the PDP through the ballot box”.

Also responding to the development, the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), described the PDP governors who are defecting to the APC as highly unprincipled people and opportunists who want to remain relevant at all cost.
Speaking yesterday, Sagay, who blasted the Chairman of the APC National Caretaker Committee, Gov. Mai Mala Buni, of Yobe State, also described the APC as an unprincipled party for welcoming the PDP governors into its fold.
