Former Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, has lamented the growing insecurity situation in the country amidst huge sum of money budgeted as security votes.

Moghalu, who spoke in Awka, Anambra state at an event organized by a socio-political pressure group, Kwechiri N’oganiru Anambra, with the theme: “Anambra: The Quest For Excellence in Governance”, called for the scrapping of security votes, stressing it was not part of accountable governance.
He said, “When you understudy the level of insecurity in the country, one begins to wonder what government is doing with the huge sum of money budgeted as security votes.
“The rate of killings and bloodletting in Nigeria goes to question the responsiveness of government in ensuring the safety of lives and property in the country.
“Against this backdrop, we call for the scrapping of security votes because they are not being used for the purposes of securing lives and property of Nigerians.”
Moghalu, who was the presidential candidate for the Young Progressive Party, (YPP), also faulted the current make-up of the CBN, saying it was exceeding its boundaries and functions.
Earlier, the Anambra-South Coordinator of the group, Uzodinma Nzeribe, said that the public discussion was to sensitize and stimulate the polity for good governance and true democracy.
He called on the people of the State to be careful in their choice of the next governor of the state.
