Tinubu sets up special panel to probe N-Power, other social investment programmes

President Bola Tinubu has formed a six-ministerial committee to reform the Federal Government’s National Social Intervention Programme (NSIP).

The establishment of the committee follows the suspension of the program by Tinubu, a week after the suspension of the Minister of Charities and Charities, Dr. Betta Edu.

The President suspended Edu after removing the leader of Economic Development for the Poor, Hajiya Halima Shehu. Edu was accused of diverting 585.2 million naira into the bank account of a government employee.

In a statement issued by the Presidential Press Officer, Ajuri Ngelale, at the weekend, he said that the committee appointed by Tinubu consists of six ministers under the Minister of Finance, and the Minister of Economic Affairs, Wale Edun.

Others include the Minister of Information and Communications, Mohammed Idris; Minister of Health, Dr. Ali Pate, and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, as well as the Minister of Communications and a Junior Minister of Youth Affairs.

Ngelale explained the responsibilities assigned to the committee, where he said: “The Special Committee of the President has been tasked to immediately begin tracking the expenditure of the programme for the improvement of the lives of the Indigent, and review the plans and regulations of the programme as a whole.

“They will do this in order to restructure the programme for the distribution of funds in projects to support the poor; the programme to feed school-children and support small-business owners. Then, there is the N-Power Programme and financial support for the poor”.
