President Bola Tinubu yesterday welcomed Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, to the Presidential Villa in Abuja after they won the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.
D’Tigress earned their fourth straight Afrobasket title after beating Senegal in a tough final match.
During the reception, the President announced National Honours for all players and coaching staff, while each player will also receive a cash reward of $100,000, while the technical crew will get $50,000 each.
Their consistent wins have made them one of the strongest teams in African women’s basketball.
The team’s victory has not only brought joy to many Nigerians but has also placed the country firmly on the map as a leader in the sport across the continent.
