Former Rivers State governor and presidential aspirant, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that President Bola Tinubu is defeatable in 2027, urging Nigerians to vote massively to end his tenure.

Speaking at the 5th anniversary lecture of ‘First Daily’ in Abuja, themed: “2027: How Can We Make Our Votes Count?”, Amaechi argued that Tinubu’s 2023 loss in Lagos proved he was not unbeatable.

“The first solution to electoral reform is not the government – it’s the people”, he said. “Voter apathy will make Tinubu return to the Villa. If he could be defeated in Lagos, it can be repeated nationwide”.

He blamed opposition parties for weakness and disunity, saying, “The opposition is the problem; they’re not discussing how to save Nigeria”. He also dismissed the idea that any incumbent government could truly reform elections, citing vested political interests that block reform efforts.

Former Bayelsa governor Seriake Dickson, who chaired the event, condemned election rigging as “the worst coup against democracy”, accusing politicians, security agencies, and INEC of subverting the people’s sovereignty.

Keynote speaker, Dr. Sam Amadi, of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, called for greater scrutiny of INEC and warned that Nigeria’s elections are increasingly controlled by those in power.

Publisher Daniel Markson lamented Nigeria’s leadership failures and announced a nationwide voter sensitisation campaign by First Daily ahead of the 2027 polls.
