A member of the 10th House of Representatives, Hon. Muhammed Gudaji Kazaure, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of deliberately ignoring documents containing evidence of alleged large-scale corruption involving over ₦100 trillion during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a scathing revelation, Kazaure, who represents the Kazaure/Roni/Gwiwa/Yankwashi federal constituency of Jigawa State, claimed he personally submitted a comprehensive investigative report to President Tinubu before he was sworn into office in May 2023.
Kazaure was quoted to have said. “Personally, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu called me before he was sworn in. I submitted all the details of my investigation. Over a ₦100 trillion—by then, we calculated it to be over $113 billion—was stolen”.
According to the lawmaker, the documents contained names of individuals allegedly involved in the diversion and looting of the massive public funds, which he believed could have been recovered to rebuild Nigeria’s economy without resorting to foreign loans. “I gave him the full document and all the names of people who stole and shared the over ₦100 trillion among themselves”, he alleged.
“I told Mr. President that this investigation cost me my election. I escaped assassination twice. That’s why I fled the country when I should have been campaigning for re-election in 2023”.
Kazaure expressed deep disappointment that despite his personal sacrifices and risk to uncover the alleged financial crimes, President Tinubu failed to act on the report. “But Mr. President threw all the documents into the dustbin; and now he is applying and applying for loans everywhere, when indeed he knew those who stole over ₦100 trillion in Buhari’s regime”, he stated.
The explosive claims by the vocal lawmaker come at a time when Nigeria is grappling with mounting debt and rising concerns over government borrowing.
Neither the Presidency nor the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a response to Kazaure’s allegations as of press time.
