President Bola Tinubu is reportedly planning a cabinet reshuffle to remove underperforming ministers, following increasing pressure from within and outside his party, the All Progressives Congress, (APC).

Tinubu, who had earlier established the Result and Delivery Unit to evaluate the performance of his ministers, is now expected to dismiss some ministers and reassign others to enhance government efficiency.

Sources within the Presidency suggest that the reshuffle is imminent, with the focus on bringing in ministers who can better implement the President’s policies.

Recall that last week, Tinubu replaced the Directors-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS) after the Heads of the agencies resigned their appointments.

According to sources in the Presidency, a cabinet reshuffle was imminent. The officials, who requested anonymity because they were not authorised to discuss the matter, revealed that some ministers would be dismissed, while others would be reassigned to other ministries for improved effectiveness.

Opposition parties, however, remain skeptical, with some attributing the ministers’ poor performance to Tinubu’s leadership and questioning whether any reshuffle will lead to significant improvements.

Speaking to newsmen yesterday, Yunusa Tanko, the campaign spokesman for a former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, said the Party was more concerned with improved electoral reforms.

On his part, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Ibrahim Abdullahi, attributed the ministers woeful performance to Tinubus lack of empathy for Nigerians.

Also, National Secretary of the Coalition of United Political Party, (CUPP), Peter Ameh, cautioned Tinubu against making the same mistake as his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, by keeping his ministers for eight years. According to him, CUPP was not surprised by the failure of Tinubus ministers, adding that a responsible government would have dismissed them long ago.

Experts and civil society groups have also criticised the performance of many current ministers, urging Tinubu to reduce the number of ministries and focus on appointing more capable individuals to drive his administrations agenda.
