Olusegun Obasanjo has criticised President Bola Tinubu, stating that he came to power without a plan for the country.

In a recent interview, Obasanjo emphasised that leadership goes beyond making pronouncements, especially when such statements have not been thoroughly studied.

According to him, “What do you say about a president who came to office without a plan? He came into office without a plan; and then he woke up and just announced a three-point plan. What is this three-point plan? What are its objectives? Who developed it? You simply open your mouth and make a pronouncement on something that hasn’t been studied.

“Let me give you an example; When I was the military Head of State, we decided to actively participate in the fight against the last remnants of colonialism and apartheid. We were determined; and as a result of our policy, pronouncements, and commitment, we became known as members of the frontline States, even though we were thousands of kilometers away from the frontline. We resolved to do what needed to be done and worked alongside the frontline States. When we needed to fully support them, we did; and in the end, we succeeded.

“It cost us something, but what it cost us could have been wasted on anything else. However, our commitment earned us respect from African countries and the international community. They respected us for it. And that is leadership”.

The Presidency has yet to respond to Obasanjo’s claim as of press time.
