President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is’haq Oloyede, whose second tenure ends on July 31, 2026.

According to a statement issued yesterday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Aina is a respected academic and systems expert with years of experience in examination administration, digital infrastructure, and institutional reforms.
The incoming JAMB registrar, who will turn 40 in July, studied Computer Systems Engineering at the University of Kent, United Kingdom, before earning a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Aina currently serves as a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. His early exposure to examination administration reportedly began during his National Youth Service (NYSC) at JAMB, where he gained practical experience in admissions and data management processes.
The Presidency noted that his professional career spans more than 15 years across technology, policy development, and institutional transformation. He has advised both federal and state governments on digital transition and operational reforms. He has also worked with examination bodies such as NECO and NABTEB, alongside several state ministries of education, focusing on ICT systems, examination security, and digital optimisation.
At 39, Aina became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in Computer Engineering, and is now set to become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history. He is affiliated with several professional organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Aina would build on the achievements recorded under Oloyede’s leadership and further strengthen the examination body through innovation and administrative reforms.
