“The 2 judgements I heard are the two best this country has ever had” – Robert Clarke, SAN, 85

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, (SAN), and elder statesman, Chief Robert Clarke, has said the recent verdicts of the Justice Haruna Tsammani-led five-member panel of the Presidential Petition Election Tribunal which nullified the petitions against President Tinubu lodged by Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi was correct.

Clarke, at the age of 85, in his recent remarks, extolled the two judgements. He stated emphatically, “The two judgements I heard today are the two best judgements this country has ever had”.

His words underscore the depth and precision he believes the court exercised in its deliberations and pronouncements.

Addressing the Labour Party’s response to the verdict, Clarke did not mince words. “I don’t know where he got his jurisprudence from,” he quipped, evidently referring to the party’s dissent.

He went on to emphasise the significance of these judgements being aired live, “It is a good thing that these two judgements are being broadcast live, so that you and I, and those that are not knowledgeable in the law, will understand what is at stake in the country.

“Despite whatever the Labour Party might say, these judgements have greatly enriched the jurisprudence of this country”.

Robert Clarke’s endorsement of the tribunal’s decisions will no doubt resonate with many in the legal fraternity, while also offering a learning moment for those keen on understanding the intricacies of Nigeria’s jurisprudential evolution.
