The Coordinator of the Nigeria Defence Headquarters (DHQ) media operation, John Enenche, has stated that the Armed Forces have ”checkmated” the activities and operations of Boko Haram in the North-East.
This statement was made by Enenche during an interview with newsmen.
According to him, “The issue of bombings that even spread to other places like Abuja, Kano, Niger and Kogi States, including their slipper cells no longer exist. What about suicide bombing, which is one of the signs of terrorism? It was rife and even at our checkpoints they come and detonate bombs as well as public gatherings – all these have been nipped properly”.
“If you put all these together, I can tell you that terrorism has been checkmated. However, the signs are still there with isolated action here and there; which is common with terrorism”, he added.

It was also reported that troops of ‘Operation Tura Takaibango’, a new operation recently launched by the Army, said it has killed 28 Boko Haram terrorists in an encounter at Gujba village, in Gujba local government area of Yobe State.
In a statement released by Acting Director, Defence Media Operations, Brigadier-General Benard Onyeuko, said the newly launched ‘Operation Tura Takaibango’ is already yielding results with the latest operation which was generally adjudged as successful.
