“Take charge of governance” – Obasanjo urges youth

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, says that many Nigerians don’t believe in the country, but argued that there’s no alternative.

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has called on Nigerian youths to seize the opportunity to take over governance, asserting that if they don’t do so now, they might never have the chance again.

Speaking at the ‘Emerging Political Leaders Fellowship’ programme, organised by the Bridge Foundation in Abuja, Obasanjo encouraged the youth to be positively disruptive in their pursuit of political power.

“You are the leaders of today; if you don’t take it now, you will never get it. You have to be positively disruptive; don’t accept things the way they are. You need to make those who need to be made uncomfortable”, he emphasised.

Obasanjo, while advising the youth not to lose focus on their political ambitions, suggested that Nigeria could experience a turnaround in two years if governance is on the right course.

The former President asked Nigerian youths to believe in Nigeria and develop love for the country, pointing out that there was no alternative to their country.

Additionally, he urged Nigerians to express gratitude to the generation that fought for the nation’s independence. Also emphasising the need for common security and shared prosperity, Obasanjo called on citizens to draw lessons from the country’s history.

According to him, the way forward for Nigeria was for the nation not to lose.
