2023 Presidency: CBN Governor, Emefiele, withdraws his presidential bid

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele, has withdrawn from the 2023 presidential bid, a credible source yesterday confirmed to newsmen.

Emefiele’s final withdrawal came weeks after speculations were rife that he would contest for the seat during the upcoming general elections.

“CBN Governor has withdrawn from the presidential race and has communicated his intention to continue as CBN Governor,” the source said.

Recall that the apex bank’s governor had met President Buhari Thursday, where he may have informed him of his final decision. Though he declined to comment after the meeting, Emefiele had told State House correspondents to expect an announcement any moment.

Emefiele’s final withdrawal comes after the Federal High Court Abuja turned down his request as he sought enforcement of his right to contest the 2023 presidential election without resigning from his current position.

Following this, he approached a Delta State High Court on May 13 and was reportedly granted his request to restrain the Board of the CBN and Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), from stopping him from seeking an elective post while he retains his job as governor.
