June 12: IBB decries Nigerians’ voter apathy

Nigeria’s former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), has urged Nigerian leaders to explore the gains of the June 12, 1993, presidential election in order to deepen democracy in the country. Babangida stated this yesterday, while speaking through his media aide, Kassim Afegbua, on Nigeria’s democracy and the journey so far. Don’t simply lament, get involved — INEC advises voters

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has implored Civil Society Organisations  (CSOs) and the citizens, specially youths, to get involved in deepening the country’s democracy. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu at the commission’s consultative meeting with CSOs on Wednesday in Abuja, said that citizens should not just lament but get involved in the democratic process. VOTERS IN SEVERAL U.S. STATES BACK DRUG LEGALISATION IN REFERENDUMS

Voters in several U.S. states backed measures to decriminalise marijuana and some psychedelic drugs in referendums. According to the board of elections, with ballots still being counted in the nation’s capital, Washington, 77 per cent of voters are saying yes to effectively decriminalising a range of psychedelic plants and mushrooms.
