Oyo: Gov. Makinde reopens Shasha market

Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde has lifted the curfew imposed on Shasha market in Ibadan. The market was shut down indefinitely by Mr. Makinde last week after a cobbler was stabbed to death by a cart pusher resulting in ethnic clashes with stalls burnt and properties worth millions blazed. In a bid to forestall further clashes in the community the governor imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew, spanning from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily. ‘Persons stoking ethnic tension should be treated as criminals’, Makinde tells Oyo CP

Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde,  has tasked the State’s Commissioner for Police, Ngozi Onadeko, to arrest persons stoking ethnic tension in the State and treat them as criminals. Makinde, who gave this charge when Onadeko paid him a courtesy visit at governor’s office, Ibadan, yesterday, decried rising ethnic tension in the State. Speaking, Makinde condemned as unlawful and unacceptable persons making statements that are unconstitutional.

Makinde overrides FG’s curfew, endorses cross-over services in Oyo

Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has made a U-turn on the 12a.m. curfew of the Federal Government, as he granted permission to churches to hold crossover services in the State. The Federal Government’s curfew, meant to halt the spread of COVID-19, is between 12am and 4a.m. daily.
