The Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Nasir Isa Kwarra, has announced that Nigeria’s long-overdue national census will finally be conducted in 2025. Kwarra made this disclosure yesterday in Abuja at the ‘2024 Anniversary of the Nairobi Summit on the International Conference on Population and Development, (ICPD)’. He emphasised that the delay in conducting the census has hindered Nigeria’s ability to effectively assess population needs and allocate resources, particularly in rural and underserved areas. The National Population Commission, (NPC) has admonished politicians to desist from reading political undertone into the upcoming 2023 Population and Housing Census. The Commission issued the admonition in a statement by its Director, Public Affairs, Dr. Isiaka Yahaya. He explained that political class and all Nigerians should rather see census data for its fundamental purpose as a tool for development planning. Uncertainty hangs over 2023 Census exercise, as donors, stakeholders give new conditions

A thick and ominous cloud is hovering over the rescheduled 2023 Population and Housing Census exercise, findings have revealed. Recall that the National Population Commission (NPC), had earlier fixed March 29, 2023, as kick-off date for the exercise.
