The Chairman of Sokoto State Ulama Forum of Izala, Sheikh Abubakar Usman Mabera has said any lawyer who defends the Kano State singer Yahaya Aminu Sharif recently convicted for blasphemy by a Sharia court has renounced his Islamic faith. According to Tribune Newspaper, the Islamic cleric affirmed that a competent Sharia court in Kano had sentenced the musician to death for blasphemy. Yahaya Sharif-Aminu, a musician sentenced to death by hanging for blasphemy against Prophet Muhammed by an Upper Sharia Court in Kano has appealed the judgment. Public Relations Officer of Kano Courts, Baba Jibo confirmed the development. The Kano Singer was sentenced to death on August 10, 2020, and was given 30 days by the court to appeal the judgment. Blasphemy: Sharia Council asks Kano govt to execute singer

The Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria has urged Kano State government to execute the court judgment that found a musician guilty for blasphemy. In a statement signed by its Secretary General, Nafiu Baba-Ahmad, Tuesday in Kaduna, the Shariah Council said executing the judgment will serve as deterrent to others.
