Prof. Kailani, who made the call yesterday, called the Government to come and support the civilian JTF so that we eliminate or eradicate armed banditry in Nigeria.

According to him, such a move would promote peace, unity and stability in the country.

“He said, “Here in Kaduna, we decided to form our own civilian JTF based on the UN’s community policing guidelines. In the past 16 years, with the Police and soldiers being killed and ordinary people being attacked in broad daylight. We felt the need to form a civilian JTF, in collaboration with security agencies. And we’ve been very successful over the past 16 years.

“Insurgency, kidnappings and all the crimes that are have been bothering us in this country and also to maintain law and order, and to keep peace and unity through supporting the security agencies, which we have been doing in the last 16, 17 years.

“I believe we need to clap for ourselves in this regard. We are calling on the Heads of the securities, from IGP to the CDS to the Director-General of DSS, that of Civil Defense and other para-military agencies, to continue to support the civilian JTF, so that we reach the promised land, whereby the citizens can sleep with their eyes truly closed in Nigeria”.

Addressing the CJTF members, he further said, “There is no doubt that you people are very gallant. I appreciate all of you; because, the history is there that when you go into the bush or when you support the security agencies to arrest bandits and kidnappers, you are at the forefront of.

“I think this is a very wonderful actions that you have taken over years. We want to also thank the 774 local government areas of the country, where you have DPOs. They are supporting you; they should continue to support you.

“So, this meeting as a strategic roadmap to further bring peace and unity to Nigeria and Nigerians”.

When asked of the challenges faced by members of the CJTF, he replied: “There are instances which me personally, I don’t like. For instance, some of our members may be working with these Police officers, or DSS; often times, they don’t understand. They (the Police) will just call me from nowhere, that my people are arrested and put into the cell…I think that one should stop.

According to him, “If there is anything the security agencies don’t understand, they should be able to call their leaders; those are the local levels.

He further said: “You ask your leaders. You can see how harmoniously, Kaduna, Abuja, all the States, they are working harmoniously now. Because, I think they came to realize that they can’t do the job alone.

“If you look at the strengths of the army in Nigeria today, there are about 290 thousand or so. If you compare it to Egypt, they have over 3 million soldiers. We have only 290 something. The same thing with the Police, the same thing with the DSS. So if you combine all the forces in Nigeria, I don’t think they are up to 2 million; and that’s where we came in. And they know that we are doing a very good job”.

He charged the CJTF personnel to continue to discharge their duties with honesty, sincerity, and discipline, urging them to strengthen their partnership with security agencies and bring peace, unity, and stability to Nigeria.
