The pan-Yoruba sociopolitical organisation, Afenifere, has urged President Bola Tinubu to issue an executive order for the creation of State and local government area (LGA) Police.

According to the group said there is an urgent need for the Federal Government to be more innovative in addressing insecurity across the country.

Over the past few years, there has been repeated clamour for the creation of State Police to complement the efforts of the federal police towards addressing insecurity in States.

Recall that on May 16, Speakers of the 36 State Houses of Assembly supported the on-going process by the National Assembly to create State Police.

In an issued statement at the weekend, spokesperson of Afenifere, Jare Ajayi, called for the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and other modern technologies in strategic areas in the country.

Ayayi lamented that armed robbers and kidnappers have taken over many roads in the South-West zone “There are indications that Tinubu is desirous of putting an end to this deleterious menace”,  he was quoted as saying.

The Afenifere spokesperson said the Federal Government must also enhance the welfare of Nigerians, as part of the measures to end insecurity.
