Rivers: Fubara resumes as Governor; pledges peace, reconciliation

Fubara resumes

…”I’m the real hero for stopping Atiku in 2023″ – Wike

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, yesterday resumed duties at the Government House, Port Harcourt, after six months away, marking the end of the emergency rule imposed by President Bola Tinubu in March.

Fubara, who arrived to a rousing welcome at the Port Harcourt International Airport around 11:50 a.m., told supporters that his return signaled a renewed bond between his government and the people of Rivers State. He is expected to make a state broadcast by 6 p.m.

“I am really humbled by the love, confidence and solidarity. This is not just celebration but a reactivation of our bond with the people,” Fubara said.

His comeback coincides with fresh political fireworks as Federal Capital Territory Minister, (FCT), Nyesom Wike, declared himself the “real hero” of Nigerian democracy for stopping Atiku Abubakar in 2023.

Wike, in an interview, boasted that Atiku “didn’t get 5% in Rivers” and predicted an even heavier defeat for the former vice-president in 2027.

“I became the hero of democracy by making sure Atiku lost in the real election. His defeat will be resounding again”, Wike said, dismissing claims that ex-Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal, was the PDP convention hero in 2022.

With Fubara back in office and Wike stoking the national stage, Rivers politics is once again the storm center of Nigeria’s power game.
