The Renewed Kaduna Restoration Group, (RKRG) has lauded Governor Uba Sani’s efforts to steer Kaduna State out of a deep financial crisis, while sharply criticizing the fiscal policies of former governor, Nasir el-Rufa’i.

The RKRG, in an issued press statement yesterday, claimed that el-Rufai’s tenure, in its 8-year campaign against what it describes as “reckless mis-governance”, left Kaduna with unsustainable debt and mis-allocated resources.
The Group’s statement points to a recent committee report that, according to RKRG, confirms allegations of fiscal irresponsibility during the former governor’s administration. Among the cited issues are large-scale borrowing and public infrastructure projects executed at inflated costs that were well above World Bank rates, practices the group says have left citizens burdened by an enduring debt crisis.
According to the statement, “The committee report vindicates our long-held position on the financial mismanagement of el-Rufai’s government. It confirms the debt burden and the misallocation of resources that continue to hamper the economic progress of Kaduna State”, the RKRG statement read
The RKRG also condemned recent remarks by Nasir el-Rufa’i attacking Governor Sani, describing them as desperate attempts to deflect responsibility for the financial wreckage allegedly left behind.
According to the group, el-Rufai’s claim that Governor Sani’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a pretext for securing N150 billion in financial interventions is “misleading and hypocritical”, given that such measures would be unnecessary if Kaduna’s finances had been sound.
Highlighting the contrast between the two administrations, the RKRG praised Governor Sani’s commitment to restoring fiscal discipline. “Governor Uba Sani has taken bold steps to cut wasteful expenditures and focus on people-centered governance. His administration prioritizes transparency and long-term solutions over short-term political maneuvering”, the statement said.
The Group’s press statement comes amid mounting calls from civil society for greater accountability in Kaduna’s governance. RKRG urged citizens to remain vigilant and support the current administration’s reform agenda, framing Governor Sani’s policies as ‘the necessary antidote to years of financial mismanagement’.
“The people of Kaduna deserve leadership that works to restore prosperity through responsible fiscal policies. We stand with Governor Uba Sani as he navigates the state through these challenging times”, the RKRG concluded.
