The Renewed Kaduna Restoration Group (RKRG), under the leadership of its Chairman, Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmed Tijjani Ramalan, has expressed profound gratitude to the Kaduna State House of Assembly and State Governor, Uba Sani for repealing the laws that created the Zaria Metropolitan Authority, Kaduna Capital Territory Authority (KCTA), and Kafanchan Municipal Authority.

Recall that these authorities were initially established by former Governor Nasir el-Rufa’i, a move that RKRG and other progressive groups had challenged in the Kaduna State High Court of Justice.

In a statement marking the first anniversary of Governor Uba Sani’s administration, Dr. Ramalan highlighted that the RKRG had recommended the repeal of these laws in a communiqué issued on May 25, 2024. The group argued that these laws were inconsistent with constitutional provisions and resulted in the wrongful deduction and conversion of resources meant for democratically-elected Local Government Councils.

In an issued statement on the repeal of these laws on Thursday, Dr. Ramalan stated that, “This action by the Kaduna State House of Assembly and Governor Uba Sani demonstrates a commitment to a listening and people-driven government”.

He congratulated the people of Kaduna State for being relieved from what he described as the mis-governance and degradation of Local Government Councils under Nasir el-Rufa’i’s administration. “The RKRG views this development as a significant step towards restoring the autonomy and functionality of Local Government Councils, as recognized by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”, he further stated.

The RKRG lauded the move as a victory for democracy and the rule of law in Kaduna State.
