Music superstar, Davido to give away N250m amassed during birthday to charity

Nigerian music superstar and recording artiste, David Adeleke, professionally known as Davido, has announced that he will be donating the sum of N250 million raised from fans, friends and colleagues on his 29th birthday to charity.

In a statement published on his verified Instagram account yesterday, the singer, who turns 29 today, Sunday, Nov. 21, revealed that he added the sum of N50 million to the N200 million garnered during the funds challenge, which he single-handedly kick-started during the week.

The music superstar said he has given the entirety of the funds amassed during the funds challenge to orphanage homes across the country.

Davido revealed in the statement that the amount amassed surpassed his expectation and he is prepared to give back to the community. He also appreciated his colleagues in the entertainment industry who participated in the altruistic challenge.

The singer also launched a committee to oversee the disbursement of the funds to beneficiaries. The 5-member panel includes Mrs. Titi Adebayo as Chairman.

Others members are; Prof Jonathan Nwose (Secretary), Prof. Yahana Joeal Asabae, Pastor (Dr.) Oyalabu of Spring Time Development Foundation and Professor Uloma Unoha.

The multi-award-winning Afrobeat artiste also stated that the committee will compile a list of orphanages across Nigeria and will determine the number of children and their needs at each orphanage, and divide the funds accordingly. He stated that his goal is to do this fundraising every year in celebration of his birthday.

Recall that Davido had raised over N160 million after calling on his friends and colleagues whom he has helped in the past to send him money ahead of his 29th birthday.

The award-winning singer has been applauded for his benevolence by Nigerians across various social media platforms.
