Ramalan lauds Late Dokpesi

Encomiums continued to pour out for the Late media mogul, High Chief Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi in Abuja on Wednesday, after the second ‘Raymond Dokpesi Diamond Lecture’, organised by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in Abuja, as the Chairman of the Independent Broadcasting Association of Nigeria, (IBAN) Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmed Tijjani Ramalan lauded how High Chief Raymond Dokpesi along with his AIT Channel  assisted in stopping the alleged tenure extension bid of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

According to Ramalan, who is also the Pioneer Chairman of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Board,

Dokpesi combined foresight, personal engagement and his private and Independent AIT station’s  influence in protecting  Nigeria’s democracy.

While detailing Dokpesi’s role in the third-term saga,  Ramalan said that the Founder of Africa Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower FM will soon receive the recognition he deserves for his pivotal contributions in championing private and Independent Broadcast Media in Nigeria.

Voice of Liberty News reports that the alleged third-term agenda, which emerged during Obasanjo’s second term, sought to amend the Constitution to pave way for a sitting President to contest for a third term. The proposal generated widespread concern over potential abuse of power and a threat to Nigeria’s democratic trajectory and ‘dangerous’ agenda.

In the statement, Ramalan, who was a political associate of Dokpesi,  said the Late Chief provided a platform where non-State actors could present their perspectives, where State actors  could respond, debate, and be held accountable by their constituents.
