The Ahmad Aliyu-led Sokoto State government reportedly budgeted ₦1 billion for a Ramadan feeding programme intended to provide meals to vulnerable residents across the state.

The programme was said to target about 34,000 meals per day from its 170 feeding centres throughout the fasting period. Despite this, photos circulated online on social media platform X showing residents receiving only garri, ƙuli-ƙuli, and sachet water as the relief items under the programme. These posts claimed the small quantities of these items did not reflect the scale of the ₦1 billion budget.
The social media posts sparked widespread debate. Some commenters questioned how the funds were spent and demanded transparency about the programme’s execution, including detailed breakdowns of expenditure and the number of beneficiaries served. Others cautioned about drawing conclusions without official verification.
As of the latest reports, the Sokoto State Government has not publicly responded to explain the situation or address the concerns raised on social media.
There hasn’t been an official statement clarifying how the budget was spent or what the full scope of the feeding programme’s distribution looked like beyond the shared images.
