PTF on Covid-19 debunks lockdown alert, says it is fake news

The Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 has denied that it had announced another phase of nationwide Covid-19 curfew in a bid to further stem the tide of the disease in the country.

According to a video released by the PTF, the PTF National Coordinator, Dr. Sani Aliyu, saying: “We are aware of a message circulating on WhatsApp and other social media that we’ve declared a lockdown across the country. This is absolutely not true”.

Dr. Aliyu called on the general public to ignore the fake news alert and continue with their normal activities: he, however, advised that all existing protocols must continue to be strictly adhered to.

Recall that yesterday, news circulated in social media that the Federal Government has yet again announced another phase of nationwide Covid-19 curfew in a bid to curtail the rising tide of the disease in the country.

The fake news was attributed to the PTF on Covid-19, National Incident Manager, one Mukhtar Mohammed, who was reported to have said that a 12.am to 4 am curfew has been restored and would take effect from midnight yesterday, adding that bars, nightclubs, gyms and others should stop operating till further notice.
