The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Public Affairs, Aliyu Audu, has announced his resignation — effective immediately.

In a letter dated June 8, and routed through the President’s Chief of Staff, Audu thanked President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, describing his role as an honour and a privilege.
He also expressed appreciation to presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, whose recommendation led to his appointment last August.
Shortly after, Audu took to social media to explain the reasons behind his decision. In a candid post on X, he said his resignation was “not an act of rebellion, but of conscience”, stressing that he could not, in good faith, be part of what he called a slide toward one-party rule in Nigeria.
Without aligning with the opposition, he warned that suppressing political competition poses a “spiritual danger” and undermines the principles of democracy. He also appeared to criticise the alliance between President Tinubu and Minister Nyesom Wike, calling it an “unholy union” that clashes with his ideals of progressive governance.
Despite his departure, Audu reaffirmed support for Tinubu’s economic reforms — while insisting that ideological integrity must remain intact.
