President Bola Tinubu yesterday arrived in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, to offer condolences to the residents, in the aftermath of the devastating flood that resulted in loss of lives and extensive damage to properties.
The President, who returned to the country last night after trips to UAE, China and UK, arrived at the Air component of ‘Operation Hadin Kai’, Air Force Base Maiduguri at 03:18 pm.
On arrival, the President was received by the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Air component commander, Air Commodore Usman Idris and some top-ranking officers of the Nigerian Army in the North-East.
Also receiving the President were the Governors of Kogi State, Usman Ododo; Bauchi State – Bala Mohammed; Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, (NNPCL), Mele Kyari; Senator representing Borno North, Moh’d Tahir Monguno, Minister of Agriculture and food security, Abubakar Kari, All Progressives Congress (APC) Party Chieftains and officials of the Bola Tinubu-led administration.
While in Maiduguri, the President visited the Palace of the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Garba ibn-Umar al-Amin El-Kanemi.
Previously, the President had dispatched Vice-president Kashim Shettima to assess the situation and announce the Federal Government’s donation of N30 billion.
