Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made the remark in response to an editorial published by The Guardian newspaper, titled: ‘Misery, harsh policies driving Nigerians to desperate choices’.

In an open letter condemning the editorial, Onanuga accused the news platform of attempting to incite unrest against Tinubu’s administration, saying the story “openly incites unrest against President Bola Tinubu’s administration and advocates regime change under the guise of journalism”.  According to him, the headline was inflammatory amd deviated from responsible reporting.

The Guardian’s agenda is unmistakable, from the cover illustration to the article. In attempting to create a balanced veneer, the author condemns military rule while fanning the flames of military intervention”.

According to Onanuga, the story was a reflection of a troubling trend in which The Guardian “has persistently propagated inflammatory and negative narratives, stepping dangerously close to undermining the very fabric of responsible journalism”.

He said, “In the light of the positive developments, it is unacceptable for any publication, including The Guardian, to incite calls for military intervention based on transient difficulties. A more cautious and responsible approach would have better served its readers and the nation”.

According to Onanuga, the President Tinubu was already addressing the nation’s challenges while calling for patience from Nigerians

He cautioned the newspaper, and advised other news publications to eschew calling for miliary interventions because of the challenges of country.
