Ø As bandits kill PDP chairman in Katsina
An investigation into the killing of the Nasarawa State All progressive Congress, (APC) Chairman, Phillips Shekwo has been launched by the police.
The State’s Commissioner of Police, Bola Longe, disclosed this in Lafia, the State capital, yesterday.
The deceased was reportedly seized from his residence in Lafia on Saturday night and was found dead yesterday afternoon, a few kilometres from his residence having been shot twice. Longe said the incident appears more like an assassination rather than kidnapping and assured the people of bringing the perpetrators to book.
In a swift reaction, President Muhammadu Buhari has deplored the APC chieftain’s killing, saying the nation’s security system must do more to end the incidents of violence in the country.
In a statement issued yesterday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity), Garba Shehu, in Abuja, the president welcomed the decision of the Inspector-General of Police to send reinforcement of men and materials to the State.
The statement informed that late APC chairman was shot twice, leading to his death; noting that Police investigation is expected to determine if it was an assassination or kidnapping-related murder.
In a related development, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in Katsina State has mourned the death of its chairman for Sabuwa local government area of the State, Alh. Lawal Dako, who reportedly died on Friday from injuries he sustained when bandits shot at him in the council.
The PDP Katsina state Chairman, Alh. Salisu Majigiri, who confirmed the development, described the current security situation in the state as worrisome, adding that the grand-daughter of the slain party council chairman was also shot and killed by the bandits during the attack.
