PMB directs security agencies to rescue all Nigerians in captivity

…’Buhari sad over military inability to end insecurity’ – NSA

President Muhammadu Buhari has once again issued fresh directives to security agencies to rescue all those in captivity across the country and advance the acquisition of intelligence.

The National Security Adviser, Maj-Gen. Babagana Munguno (rtd) disclosed this to State House Correspondents after the National Security Council meeting, which was held yesterday, chaired by President Buhari.

He said President Buhari has remained a sad man as a result of the persistent insecurity in the country which the nation’s security agencies have been unable to end.

According to him, the last straw was the recent attack on the Abuja-Kaduna-bound train that led to the killing of some passengers and the kidnapping of scores.

Insufficient technology and human intelligence, particularly from the wider society, according to him, has led to the persistent war and unless this is defeated, the war might become insurmountable.

He said the President has consequently ordered the rescue of all kidnapped persons unhurt, using the train attack as a fulcrum.

The NSA noted that the President feels that enough was not being done by the security agencies despite what has been provided.

Monguno stated that the President alone cannot completely receive the blame for the insecurity in the country, as according to him, his part is to make strategic decisions which the NAA said he has been doing.

He added that the surrendering of Boko Haram elements has not engendered the desired result in stemming insurgency in the country.

The NSA also stressed the imperative of intelligence from ordinary citizens, noting that unless the wider society is willing to provide the necessary intelligence, the problem of insecurity will linger beyond the time frame intended to end the menace.

He said that effort is being made to deplore technology to tackle insecurity.
