A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Nyesom Wike has taken over the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

This follows the reopening of the premises by the Nigeria Police Force after months of closure due to internal disputes.
The development was confirmed on Saturday by the National Working Committee (NWC) led by AbdulRahman Mohammed.
In a statement issued through the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, the leadership warned against any act that could disrupt activities at the secretariat or threaten peace.
The crisis within the PDP had lingered for months. It reached a boiling point on November 18 at the party’s headquarters, Wadata Plaza in Abuja. On that day, two rival factions of the NWC clashed openly. One group was led by Tanimu Turaki and backed by Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed. The other faction was aligned with Wike and led by AbdulRahman Mohammed.
The internal struggle created confusion within the party. Activities at the secretariat were disrupted. At some point, the premises were sealed, deepening the crisis and dividing party members across the country. However, the situation began to change after a ruling by the Court of Appeal on March 9. The court resolved the leadership dispute in favour of the Wike-backed camp. It also nullified the Ibadan convention held on November 16, which had the support of some governors.
Following the judgment, the police moved in to enforce the court order. The party’s National Secretariat at Wadata Plaza and Legacy House in Maitama were unsealed and handed over to the Mohammed-led leadership.
In its statement, the NWC expressed satisfaction with the role played by the police. It described the action as professional and in line with the rule of law. The party said the move showed respect for constitutional order and due process.
The leadership also used the opportunity to appreciate key figures who stood by the faction during the crisis. It gave special recognition to Wike, describing his role as crucial to the outcome.
