Amid ongoing media reports that the Nigerian government has cut-off its power supply to the Niger Republic as a result of the recent military coup veteran journalist and newspaper publisher, Chuks Akunna, has warned the Tinubu administration about the potential consequences such a move could have on the nations power generation infrastructure.

Akunna, who is the Chief Executive Officer of The Authority newspaper, gave the warning in an interview on a television programme on Thursday, said it was quite humorous for the Tinubu-led administration to cut-off its electricity supply to the Niger Republic, given the fact that the dams used to generate power in Nigeria all depend on the River Niger to function.
The seasoned journalist claimed that if the Niger Republic decides to dam the River Niger on its own soil, it will have a negative impact on Nigerias ability to produce electricity.
He further stated: Since gaining its independence, Nigeria and the Niger Republic have maintained very close bi-lateral ties. We tend to forget that the Niger River, which supplies our energy, also runs through the Niger Republic.
And going by the current deal, Niger Republic will not dam the river so that Nigeria can have electricity. All of our dams, including the Kainji and Jebba dams, will be useless if that nation decides to cut-off water supplies by constructing a dam along the River Niger.
