A video showing a young northern man expressing support for the 2027 NDC ticket of Peter Obi as presidential candidate and Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate has got many Nigerians talking online.
In the viral clip, the man, who wore a Kwankwasiyya cap, dismissed arguments based on religion, ethnicity and region while defending his support for Peter Obi.
Speaking in Hausa language, he said: “They said he is a Christian, we said we will vote for him. Again they said he is from Biafra, we insisted. Again they said he is from the East; our answer remained the same. Now they said he’s working for Tinubu. Even if it’s Barack Obama he works for, we will vote for him. So, because he works for Tinubu, you expect us to vote for you?”
Although he did not directly mention any political party or candidate he was referring to, the video was shared alongside a campaign-style image showing Obi as the presidential candidate and Kwankwaso as his running mate under the NDC platform for the 2027 election.
The clip has since generated heavy debate online, with many Nigerians reacting to the young man’s comments about tribal and religious politics.
Reacting, @vhiktri wrote: “The northerners are actually getting wiser, than the religious and tribal bigotry these politicians were playing on them. Is it not Muslim-Muslim ticket government that we’re under like this? Tell another bro”.
Another user, @BEazebuy, said, “This brother is speaking FACTS. Religion and tribe no go put food for table. Competence and good governance na the real deal. However, @BodeWarlord disagreed with the excitement surrounding the video, writing, “Just one Northerner with an android phone is what you are hyping. When 2027 comes, the real Northerners with a Sharia mentality will decide at the polls. Keep dreaming”.
