“Northern patience running out” – ACF warns FG

ACF raises alarm

The Arewa Consultative Forum, (ACF), has raised the alarm that Northern Nigeria is being pushed to breaking point under the weight of worsening insecurity, poverty, and environmental crisis.

Speaking at the Forum’s 78th National Executive Committee meeting in Kaduna, ACF Chairman, Mamman Osuman declared that the region could no longer afford to remain silent as killings, kidnappings, and disasters devastate communities.

“This is not a time for the North to fold its arms. Our people are dying daily from floods, disasters, criminals, and terrorists. The situation is unbearable, and the Government must act decisively. The patience of the North is wearing thin”, Osuman warned.

The ACF lamented that under President Bola Tinubu’s administration alone, at least 10,217 people had been killed in Northern Nigeria within two years, according to a recent Amnesty International report – a figure the government has not denied.

ACF Adviser, Bashir Hayatu Gentile told newsmen that the Forum thoroughly reviewed the region’s worsening security and concluded that urgent steps were necessary.

“Kidnappings, killings, and mass abductions have become near-daily occurrences. The North must unite to compel government action. Silence is no longer an option”, he stated. He cited the recent massacre in Malumfashi, Katsina State, where armed men stormed a mosque during dawn prayers, killing and burning worshippers.

The Forum condemned the government’s silence over Amnesty’s findings, stressing that the failure to refute the figures underscored the severity of the crisis.

“The ACF insists Nigeria’s entire security framework must be overhauled before the region is plunged into deeper devastation”, Gentile concluded.
