The Nigerian Air force, (NAF) and the United Nation, (UN) Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Nigeria has debunked the reported attack on an helicopter by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno.
This was made known in a tweet by the NAF’s Spokespersons, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, in a Twitter handle.
Although a UN helicopter undertook a mission to Banki in Borno State yesterday, it was not shot down nor did it crash, the NAF said in a statement yesterday, although it admitted that a UN helicopter was in the community but did not crash.
It had earlier been widely reported a helicopter incident in Banki, a border community with Cameroon, with a humanitarian worker suggesting the helicopter was shot down.
The Air Force, in its Tweet statement explained that “A United Nations (UN) helicopter “indeed undertook a mission to Banki and has since returned to Maiduguri”.
