The Nigerian Legion has called on veterans of the Nigerian armed forces not to join some disgruntled groups among its members who want to go to the streets and picket in order to show their grievances over some unpaid entitlements.

The National Chairman of the Nigerian Legion (NL), Maj. Gen. Abdulmalik Jibril (Rtd.), who made the call on Thursday when he addressed journalists in Abuja, said such disgruntled groups have been misinformed that entitlements resulting from consequential adjustments of minimum wage increase has been paid to some members.

He said no such entitlement has been paid to anyone and unpatriotic individuals, by calling for picketing through uncivilized manner or carrying of placards, are just politicizing issues by exploiting the sentiments of members through misinformation.

“The ones that have been miscalculated because of the adjustment to the security debarrment allowance is also being considered through the Minister of Defence and the standing committee is part and parcel of the discussions so they are aware.

” This group of people want to capitalize on times like this when the Remembrance Day Jan 15 is coming up to embarass the government,” he said.

He said the Nigerian Legion is the only statutorily recognized body that oversees the welfare, enhance and speak on behalf of ex-servicemen and said so long as there is a channel of communication it should be the route to follow.
