Military to go after coup dtat advocates in Nigeria – CDS Musa

Chief of Defence Staff, (CDS) General Christopher Musa, has said those calling for coup dtat are enemies of Nigeria, saying the law will catch up with them.

Musa stated this while speaking to newsmen during his operational visit and inauguration of facilities at Headquarters 6 Division of the Nigeria Army, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, yesterday.

The CDS described those advocating for a coup dtat in Nigeria as adversaries who do not have the countrys best interests at heart, saying, Anybody calling for anything other than democracy is evil and does not wish us well.

CDS Musa added that the challenges currently being experienced in the country cannot be enough justification to call for a military takeover of the government.

He emphasised that the countrys democracy was achieved through great efforts, the military is happy and better under democracy, hence will not act against a democratically elected government.

While admitting that the country was experiencing some challenges, he said coup calls are not the way to go because the nation achieves more and develops faster under a democracy.

The CDS noted that instead of calling for a military takeover, all citizens should rally behind the Government to resolve the present circumstances.

The military chief stated that the Government had initiated actionable measures to address the array of challenges facing Nigerians.

The military had earlier revealed that there were pressures from certain unnamed quarters for a takeover of the Government following the lingering insecurity in the country.

However, Musa said the Armed Forces is on top of its game, and will continue to do the needful in protecting democracy in the country.

The CDS pledged the militarys loyalty to the Government, adding the Armed Forces would preserve peace and order in the country.

He emphasised that what is needed is for citizens to be patient and give their support to the Government to succeed and put the enemies of State to shame, especially as the incumbent administration is doing its utmost to improve the economy and other challenges across the country.
