Land Grab: ASUU ABU protests Gov. el-rufais action in Kaduna

Members of Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU Ahmadu Bello University ABU in their hundreds embark on mass protest to express their displeasure over the desperate attempt by Governor Nasiru Ahmed EL-Rufai to encroach on the land covering 196.258 of hectares of the institutes College of Agriculture and Animal Science Mando, Kaduna.

That protesting academic staff from the famous Ahmadu Bello University ABU sang solidarity songs against the action of the State Governor Nasiru el-rufai who incidentally is an alumnus of the same institution.

The union chairman, Haruna Mohammed Jibrin said on 13 January 2022, he issued a press statement where the union cautioned Governor Nasiru el-rufai to desist from tempering with ABU property. But instead of abiding by the caution, the governor went ahead to destroy the wall of the college and several economic trees.

The union wondered why governor el-rufai should take such action in spite of a court order restraining the governor or his agents from entering or trespassing on the said land as delivered by Justice K. Dabo of federal high court, Zaria.

The Union advised the management of ABU Zaria to take legal action against Kaduna state government to demand for compensation of the destruction of the college wall.

When contacted via telephone interview the Public Relations Officer of Kaduna State Urban Property Development Authority (KASUPDA) Nuhu Danayamaka said the state government decided to revoke the said land because it had not been utilize by the authorities of the institution for sometime and in the same vein, the place is looking dark there may be tendency for criminals to hide in that area and more so the state government have discovered that the land were allocated to some individuals without going through due process.
