Kaduna govt. bans falling of trees, wandering in forests in six LGAs

Kaduna State government, on Tuesday, banned the felling of trees for timber, firewood, charcoal other commercial purposes in Birnin Gwari, Igabi, Chikun, Giwa, Kachia, Kauru, Kajuru LGAs.

The State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, on Tuesday, after much deliberation during the security meeting, the state government decided to ban the felling of trees in the selected LGAs.

Aruwan, who said the ban was in the overriding public security interest, however warned that all questionable movements and activities within the thick forests across the seven listed LGAs are prohibited with immediate effect.

According to him, ahead of the announcement, the Government of Kaduna State had held a formal meeting with the leaderships of Firewood Sellers Association, Timber Contractors and Charcoal Sellers Association.

Aruwan warned citizens involved in the felling of trees to comply as vigorous enforcement will be ensured by security agencies.
