In a related development, Governor Sani, also at the weekend, reopened Kidandan Market in the Giwa local government area of State, signalling another peace move between the State and repentant bandits.

The market, which had been closed for several years due to activities of bandits and terrorists, was reopened on Sunday, marking a major milestone in the States efforts to promote peace and economic development.

The development comes on the heels of the reopening of the Birnin-Gwari livestock market, which had been closed for about 10 years.

Governor Sani, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Sani Liman Kila, emphasised the importance of peace, stating that it was an invaluable asset to progress and development. He  urged the people to embrace one another and to resolve their differences peacefully.

He added that the  Peace Dialogue Group established by the State government was working to ensure that agreements were  respected and that the new understanding is sustained for the benefit of the people. According to the Commissioner for Security and Internal Affairs, Dr. James Atung Kanyip, the State will continue to work to sustain the peace but called for the support of the people.

Chairman of the Peace and Reconciliation Committee, Sheikh Yusuf Asadussunah, said through numerous meetings and extensive discussions, they had built bridges of trust.  However, Yusuf urged the government to ensure that those still in detention but are innocent should be set free by the security agencies..

In his welcome remarks, the Chairman of Giwa LGA, Sani Yakawada, thanked the State Governor, security agencies, and religious and traditional rulers for the restoration of peace in Giwa LGA.
