Jos Prison attack: Guards abort jailbreak by five inmates

Five inmates of Jos Correctional Centre, who attempted to bolt away yesterday, amidst an exchange of gunfire with attackers, were stopped.

Unidentified gunmen, suspected to be bandits, attacked the correctional centre facility, situated in the heart of Jos metropolis, which is not far from the State’s Police headquarters as well as the Department of State Services, (DSS).

The attackers were said to have pretended to be on a visit before they opened fire on reaching the gate of the correctional facility.

According to a military Information Officer for ‘Operation Safe Haven’, Major Ishaku, who confirmed the attack to newsmen yesterday, said that the five inmates attempted to escape but were stopped by armed personnel of the Service.
