No fewer than 25 females, including married women and young girls, were abducted when armed bandits invaded Kwanar-Na-Uwa, in Tofa District, Bungudu local government area of Zamfara State, on Saturday night.

The assailants stormed the community under the cover of darkness, targeting households and abducting only females in what has been described as a grave case of Gender-Based Violence, (GBV), with a high risk of sexual abuse.
According to a post yesterday by security analyst Bakatsine via X: “Yesterday night (Saturday), bandits invaded Kwanar Na Uwa in Tofa District, Bungudu LGA, Zamfara. They abducted 25 females, both married women and young girls”.
Zamfara State continues to grapple with a deepening security crisis, as banditry, mass kidnappings, and violent extortion have turned once-quiet farming communities into conflict zones.
Bungudu LGA, a frequent target of these raids, has witnessed repeated mass abductions in recent years. In early 2024, a similar attack in the area saw 18 women taken, many of whom remain missing.
Despite numerous military operations, including air raids and special forces deployments, the porous forests and weak infrastructure of the region have made effective policing difficult.
