Insecurity: “The present administration is utterly incompetent” – Dr. Usman Bugaje

Renowned political activist and Civil Society leader, Dr. Usman Bugaje has described President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration as incompetent over its failure to effectively tackle the worsening insecurity situation be-devilling the country.

Dr. Bujage, who is the convener of Arewa Research and Development Programme, (ARDP), stated this during a LibertyTV discussion programme: “State of the Union” yesterday.

Dr. Bujage said prioritising loyalty over competence by the administration was responsible for the Federal Government’s failure to nip it in the bud.

According to the former legislator, who also served as Special Adviser on Political Affairs to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, the security agencies’ continuous assurances of their capacity to securing the lives and property of the citizens have become increasingly hollow and as such, people are increasingly resorting to self-help.

The erudite scholar and public commentator also criticised the role of the present 9th Assembly, saying, “Sadly, the National Assembly that ordinarily should stand up to the President on behalf of the people has lost the moral grounds to do so, because they’ve been compromised”.

He blamed our current policy-makers, saying “they are not thoroughly educated, hence the reason for their poor decisions”, adding that the present political leadership lack understanding to do what other African countries are doing to better their educational system.

“The present crop of leaders are only concerned about their welfare, they care less about the people. Nowadays, on a daily basis people are being impoverished but the leaders just don’t care and this could be dangerous to our nation”.

Dr. Bugaje, who was also once a governorship aspirant in Katsina State and one-time National Secretary of the Action Congress, (AC), however warned that “if things continue like this, there will be mass action, and then no one will be spared”.
